Die, monster! You don't belong in this world.
It's very early, I'm at
work, and I slept three hours. This is because I am an idiot. Stupid Sony Online Entertainment.
Speaking of, in the comments section of an earlier post lies a discussion between myself and Allen concerning the lack of respect the San Antonio Spurs receive. They have my thanks for
clearing up why. But I mean, come on guys,
seriously, about sums up my feelings on their doing this, again. No further comment is needed until after game six. My prediction is a blowout in favor of the Spurs. It's like they set up intentional wake-up calls for themselves.
While I'm not listing the name of the company I work for on this site, I can say the one day of the year we most certainly get off is Memorial Day, and this holiday for me was a bright, shining example of why it's sometimes good to be single. The evening prior, I started playing PlanetSide at roughly one in the morning, and ended up playing until about noon on Memorial Day, at which point I took a nap for a couple of hours, then played some
MvC2 with a San Antonio player named
Jason, who knows what he is doing (although it's hard not to with Team Scrub), but was still not exempt from getting harshly OCVed a few times, inexplicably, by Jill/Storm/Tron. I could chronicle many of my PlanetSide exploits at length, but I've already proven how much of a dork I am so there's no need to drive the point home. Further chronicling of the Marvel 2 play session would only reveal, if it needed to be (P.S. - it doesn't), that Sentinel, Storm, and Cable are really good, so why bother.
In any case, I haven't played a game like I'm playing PlanetSide since
Final Fantasy VII, and that was in what, 1997 I think?
Anyway, reason why it's good to be single for that, is that while I've never hid my video game habit from a girl, I also haven't played a game for, say, more than 70% of a weekend since I was in early-to-mid highschool. So who knows how that would be received, especially by people who probably can't comprehend the beauty of hotdropping on top of an enemy-controlled survey tower from a dropship in a stealth suit and bringing wrath in the form of hot lead upon them like the Predator then hacking their main control console and turning control of their facility over to your side thereby furthering the sweep of fellow troops across the continent, i.e. girls. I'd assume not well?
But who cares, right now I can sit around and not bathe and play PlanetSide all I want, and you can't stop me. But what you can do is download more Scarface. This year, Halloween fell on a weekend. Me and Ghetto Boys went trick-or-treating.
Thanks to
Chris for linking to me. I must say though, he's really not living up to his hype.
I've been listening to a lot of
Ween lately. I've liked them for as long as I've known about them, but they'd been dormant in my mind for some time. Well, no longer! A band with song titles like "Let Me Lick Your Pussy," "Put The Coke On My Dick," and "Bananas and Blow" is simply too much to ignore.
This, from
Jimmy -
Saddam stealing from Eminem. I'm not sure what to make of this. I think it's funny, or rather, I think that I think that it's funny, but I'm not totally sure. It's worth checking out regardless.
PlanetSide, which I mentioned in post prior, is a very interesting experience. In the couple of days since I talked about it, I decided to hate it since it was basically unplayable because of lag/lockups, and because it turns out the game has issues with my graphics card. But then last night I played with no problems for quite some time. So I like it again. I fully expect that to change today when I play some more and it goes back to being irritating. We'll see.
Spurs game 4 tonight. I hate basketball and for the last couple of years I've felt about the same regarding the Spurs, but boy, do I love Tony Parker! If he has another game three type performance, I may have to marry him.
There's a "Comments" thing under each post. Feel free to use it. By "feel free" I mean "feel compelled under penalty of death."
Oh man, what a day. After sleeping soundly thanks to Spurs game +
drinking, I awoke, did essentially nothing all day, had the worst seven dollar meal of my life at Chili's with Jeff and Richard, almost bought two pairs of sandals then bought none, and am now home, ready to eventually work out a bit and then go to bed since I work in the morning. The only thing I did of note all day (and even this actually wasn't of note, which is to say, the day was essentially worthless, or, in other words, perfect) was play some more
PlanetSide on my computer.
And boy, is it
awesome! Awesome enough to use italics. This is one of those massively-multiplayer online games that is designed to take twenty to forty year-old males away from their families, the difference here being that while every other one of these is, as far as I know, some sort of
tedious boring RPG, this one is a first-person shooter! Anyway, premise is there's these three groups of people stranded on this one planet and they don't like each other that much so they fight over territory. Fair enough. Focus is to capture structures and advance your group's influence and capture more structure and so on and so on. None of this is new - many other online FPS games have done exactly the same thing. Difference is that none of them have done it on this scale and none of them feature persistent worlds.
So anyway it's awesome and few things are as cool as laying seige in tandem with thirty or forty of your brethren on an enemy-occupied building, with huge dropships flying in more troops and these little plane-things flying air support and troops covering each other on the ground and shit. The only bad part right now is stability - my ratio of play sessions-to-crashes is one-to-one. I've played three times so far, each time ending in the screen becoming quite frozen at some point, usually after the game has started lagging to an unplayable degree. This will eventually become really irritating.
I'll have to spruce this place up a bit soon. I also sat in a bookstore today for a bit and read about HTML. So if this page is soon bright pink, don't be surprised.
Earlier today I was idly chatting with a few people on AIM and passing the time with
whatsbetter.com, when disaster struck - it was Ninja Monkey, with, appropriately, a picture of a monkey in a gi, versus the Dalai Lama. I had no idea what to do - how to decide? I mean, beach volleyball vs. puppet Yoda is one thing, but...the mind reels. Needless to say, principle against Kharmic balance was a stalemate, and I left the sight, having chosen no victor. I am not a man built for big decisions.
I'm a big fan of
The Matrix and I immensely enjoy Reloaded. I'm on record as stating that I feel that the franchise's greatest strength, besides visuals, is the
appearance of a good story rather than an actual good story. There are too many fundamental problems with the base plot - humans can't be the most efficient power source, why not just make them comatose, why does kung-fu solve everything, why did Neo forget how to blow up agents, why are telephones the contact point since everything is an abstraction anyway and they may as well use bananas, etc. The answer to most of these is that they steer the plot into more visually interesting territory which I'm fine with, they're both excellent films regardless. I only bring this up because Reloaded introduces some very interesting plot elements that, depending on how they are resolved, could lead to a very compelling and imaginative overall story. At the very least, Revolutions will be visually impressive, and at the very most, it will wind the series down in a very interesting way. Despite some critisicm Reloaded is receiving, I'm inclined toward the latter.
Also I'm pissed that the best piece of work I've ever written was suspiciously like what The Architect was talking about at the end of Reloaded, down to society broken down and reconstructed with no one in the society the wiser. While I wrote the story three, four years ago, if I show it to anyone NOW, they'll say, "Oh, like The Matrix!" And then I will hit them in the face.
Hello. Since I like to type and I like seeing my own words on the screen, it was inevitable that I have one of these things eventually. Enjoy.
